Protecting the Environment

It is not only important that we keep our own lives free from darkness, but also that we keep our immediate environment free.  We never need to be afraid that the Lord is not with us for He has said, "Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Mt 28:20; cf 18:20; Is 43:1-5).  His Presence, though, does not exclude the presence of evil.  Both God and the kingdom of darkness can "experientially" be in the same place.  (Realize that the spiritual realm is not connected to time and space in the same way that we are physically.)  Because evil can come around us it is important that we keep ourselves free from its influence.

"The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the dwelling of the righteous" (Prov 3:33).

Wherever you are, you should experience the blessing of God upon that place.  There are times, though, when we do not experience that blessing.  There are a number of reasons for this:

            (1)  If we move into a location where there has been a resident demonic inhabiting, that evil can linger on.

            (2)  Often we can come under a curse because of sin in our ives.  Continual disobedience to God's laws will result in access by the demonic.  This also holds true for our places of dwelling:  if there are abominations such as idols, defiled objects of the occult, occultic books, or records and tapes of Satanic music groups, a curse will follow and give the demonic access to the home.

            (3)  There are times when other people place curses upon us, our families, or upon specific locations.  Demons can attach to those curses in order to carry out the desires of the curse.

            (4)  If another person within the "space" is under curses, or involved in sin, this too can give the demonic access to the environment.

In order to keep one's immediate environment free from invasion and occupation by evil, the following suggestions can prove helpful:

            1.  "Remove desecration."  Destroy and haul away any articles which are not holy unto God.  Get rid of all idols, Satanically inspired music, or any other articles which have been used for evil practices.  Any articles relating to mind altering drugs, sexual perversion or the occult must be destroyed. Realize that no amount of commanding will remove evil from an object that demons have rights and grounds to.

            2.  "Cleanse the location."  Any places, in which sin has been practised, will have lingering evil.  It is important that this be removed.  The following command will prove useful for doing this:   "In the power and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, I command that anything from the kingdom of darkness that has been inhabiting this location for any reason, listen to me.  I command that all rights and grounds that have been given to the kingdom of darkness to be here, be broken now.  I command that any associated curses or incantations be broken now.  I command that everything from the kingdom of darkness, as well as all its filth and garbage, leave this place now - never to return.  All this I do in the power and authority of the Lord Jesus Christ.

            3.  "Consecrate and dedicate the location to God."  Just as the Israelites consecrated their home, all their possessions, and even their land, we should do the same.  Once all evil has been removed, dedicate all to God.  The following prayer is appropriate, and should be prayed by the person of highest authority related to the location:  "Father, we come into your presence now as your children.  Blessed be your name.  We dedicate this place now to you O God.  We ask that you would cleanse this place by your Holy Spirit and set your seal upon it.  We ask that you would pour the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ over this place and make it impervious to the kingdom of darkness.  We ask that through this place, Your glory would shine forth and Your name would be honoured.  Set your holy angels to protect and shield this place as You see fit.  We now proclaim this place as holy unto You.  We pray all this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!"

            4.  "Anoint the location."  We have found that it is helpful to make use of the sacraments in order to providing added protection to any location.  Just as the Jews anointed the temple and their houses with holy oil and holy water, we have found it appropriate to do the same.

When we came into the new covenant of Christ's blood there was no longer a need to put blood on the threshold of a home.  Rather other symbols such as holy oil, holy salt, and holy water were used by the Catholic church.   I will provide a simplified and condensed summary of a formal Catholic prayer for dedicating and cleansing a home:  "Lord God Almighty, we come before you to ask you to cleanse and bless this place.  Please send your angels and your Spirit for this purpose.  We call upon you Lord to bind all evil and negative energy in the air, the ground, the water, and the underground.  Satan and all evil, you are bound.  We call upon the cleansing blood of Jesus to cleanse the air and forbid the communication of evil forces.  We pour Christ's blood of protection upon us, our loved ones, our possessions, every person on this property and everything in or on it.  We seal this area in the blood of Jesus.  We break any evil dedication now in the name of Jesus.  We break Satan's protection on it now in the name of Jesus.

At this time sprinkle blessed oil, blessed water, or blessed salt around the perimeter of the property, commanding Satan and all evil to leave.  Once completed stand again at the main entrance and pray:  "Father we dedicate this place to you.  We ask that You would receive it and purify it in Jesus Christ our Lord."

            Read Psalm 127.

Make the sign of the cross on the door posts and lintels with blessed oil or blessed water and say, "God is our protector, in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

Enter the dwelling and pray: "Father, I ask you to pour your forgiveness upon this room: its walls, its air, and cleanse any evil or history of evil with the blood of Jesus.  If there are any disembodied spirits, bring them peace and, if any evil, drive it away.  If any negative force, neutralize it.  In the name of Jesus, we command you Satan to leave.  Father, we ask You now to fill this room, and everything in it, with your love and your presence.  May no evil come near this dwelling nor plague come in.  Let Your love and peace be upon all who dwell and enter here."

With blessed oil or blessed water, make the sign of the cross on every opening and window to the room and say: "God is our protector, in the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

Read Psalm 91.  (Repeat this process for the entire house, including garages, attics, and cellars.)

Conclude in prayer, "Father, we thank you for what you have done here.  We ask that You would continue to bless us and this place, and grant us the grace to dwell in love and harmony being led by your Spirit.  If there remain any evil or sin in this place, we would ask for wisdom and discernment to complete and bring total peace to this place.  We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!"

We have found that one prayer will suffice for the entire house and that all exterior openings, windows, and doors should be anointed.  We have found this process extremely helpful in prohibiting curses and blocking those who would astral travel onto the property.  It is not critical that any set format be followed - but that the intentions and prayers be accurate and that the basics are covered.

            5.  "Manifest God's grace."  God is honoured by the filling of our homes with articles, objects and activities that glorify Him.  Just as the righteous Jews did, display Scripture where it can be readily seen.  Play good Christian music, and worship God. Celebrate the religious holidays with feasts and festivities.  Use the location for promoting the continuance and furtherance of God's kingdom.

            6.  "Maintain protection."  Yearly, rededicate the property to God.  Daily pray over the place for cleansing and protection.  Whenever there is a presence of evil felt, deal promptly with it.  Command that any rights or grounds that allow evil to come would be broken.  If there are any people who continually curse you or your family, command that they be bound up and stopped and that all evil be bound and sent to the pit or turned over for Jesus's discipline and judgment.

Be cautious about keeping strangers in your home.  You can never be sure when Satan will come ringing at your door, wishing to do havoc on the property.  It is useful therefore to command that there be a standing command in place so that, whenever anyone comes onto the property, all the demonic baggage and property be checked at the door or at the property line, to remain there until the person leaves.  I have observed friends who took a witch in to live with them and neither properly protected themselves or their property - the results were horrible.  The negative effects of the experience literally lasted for years.

I personally have seen people completely change while staying in our home, only to quickly change back once walking off the property.  My partner once allowed a young man who was suicidal to live in his house while we worked with helping him with his problems.  As long as this young man was within the protected environment of the home he was rational and acted in a very healthy way.  Within a few days, of moving out of the protected environment, he killed himself.  Always take the condition of the spiritual environment into account.

            7.  "Extend protection."  Pray that the protection that exists in the home will extend to anywhere that you or your family are.  It is appropriate to pray for any specific locations in which extended time is spent.  Such may include a desk at school or at work, an office, or one's vehicles.  It is important to limit one's prayers to only those geographical areas that legitimately belong to oneself and one's family.  If you begin to make claims to territories that belong to other people, you will soon find yourself coming under attack. Each person has authority over their own property.  Mothers and fathers, elders, and pastors have increasing authority in that order.  Make use of your position in Christ to protect and seal one's environment in peace - creating an oasis for His healing presence.
